Time and temperature are very important variables in soldering printed circuit boards. It is important to bring the circuit board assemblies up to a high enough temperature for a long enough period to effectively solder the components to the board. Getting the temperature up too high or heating the assembly too quickly can result in component damage. Not heating things up enough results in poor soldering and reliability problems.

Classic PCB Profiling

Classic PCB Profiling tools are used to create a repeatable thermal process that meets the specifications required by the solder paste and or component manufacturers. Only by profiling do you have any idea of what the actual temperatures are on the components and solder in a reflow soldering process. Profiling has two primary objectives:

  1. Determining the correct process settings (oven recipe) needed to meet the requirements of the components and solder for a given assembly.
  2. Verifying a process consistency for repeatable results
